The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of being involved in multiple crimes, including fraud, motorcycle theft, and animal rustling.

The arrest was made in separate operations conducted by the police.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Adam, revealed this development during a press briefing in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

He said, “On August 28, 2024, our operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse arrested Ilyasu Munkaila, aged 45, from Asayaya village in Kiyawa Local Government Area, in connection with a case of fraud and conspiracy.”

DSP Lawan Adam further disclosed that during interrogation, Munkaila admitted to the crime and confessed to receiving N50,000 as his share of the fraudulent proceeds.

He stated, “The suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime and mentioned that he received his share of fifty thousand naira after the deal was completed.”

According to DSP Adam, the arrest was linked to a report filed by Alhaji Sani Muhammad, a 50-year-old resident of Kano State, who reported being defrauded by unknown individuals in Nafara village, Birnin Kudu, on July 29, 2024.

In addition to Munkaila’s arrest, the police recovered two motorcycles, two sheep, and a ram from the suspects. DSP Lawan Adam said, “These items were recovered as evidence, and we are continuing our investigations to apprehend other suspects involved in this criminal activity.”

The Jigawa State Police Command has assured the public that they are committed to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

DSP Lawan Adam concluded, “We are determined to bring all culprits to justice and maintain peace in Jigawa State.”

The police have urged anyone with information about criminal activities in the state to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts to keep Jigawa safe.
