We’ve Record Significant Savings Despite Economic Struggles – Delta Govt

By Chuks Peter, DELTA |

Delta State Government today said Delta has saved over 200 billion naira for infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing socio-economic development and the wellbeing of Deltans. In the midst of escalating economic challenges across Nigeria,

This was dislosed to journalists at a news briefing in Asaba, on Tuesday afternoon by Felix Ofou, the Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on New Media, who also revealed that a surplus of 205 billion naira was achieved through prudent financial management.

“The operating surplus is unusual in our time. When money comes, politicians are quick to look for sub heads to take the money. But Governor Oborevwori said no, and that we need to save the money to use it for projects.

“Moreover, over seventy road projects have been initiated since May 29 of the previous year, with many completed or nearing completion.

“Be assured that the remaining debt would be settled before the administration’s tenure ends,” Ofou stated.

On his part, another media aid to Governor Oborevwhori, comrade Norbert Chiazor, added that, as an evidence of the administration’s commitment to alleviating the people’s suffering some of these projects awarded.

Chiazo said, “Additionally, 78 billion naira has been allocated for three flyover projects in Warri.”

This announcement has ignited a debate on the state’s financial priorities and the true impact on its citizens.

This announcement also came as many Deltans grapple with severe economic difficulties. Others argue that while saving for infrastructure is commendable, immediate relief measures for the suffering population should be prioritized.

The revelation that the state has also paid 130 billion naira out of a 465 billion naira debt has further fueled the controversy.

However, some citizens and analysts question whether these projects are the most effective use of funds during a time of widespread economic hardship. While the administration emphasizes human capital development, including youth and women empowerment programs and payment of wage awards and pension arrears, the debate over financial priorities continues to rage.
