Katsina State Acting Governor Faruk Lawal announced a revision of the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on Dutsinma Local Government Area on Monday.
This decision follows a positive report on the security situation in the area. The curfew will now align with the 7:00 pm to 7:00 am restriction already in place for 33 other local government areas.
Despite this relaxation, Lawal emphasized that the ban on unusual gatherings and all forms of protests will continue to be enforced throughout the state.
He praised the security forces for their professional handling of individuals who attempted to exploit peaceful protests for criminal activities.
Additionally, Lawal expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, and community leaders for advising their children and youths against engaging in unlawful behavior.
The state security council reported several arrests in connection with recent incidents of violence, looting, and vandalism.
Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, confirmed that some suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, vandalism, and theft.
The council has urged citizens to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that efforts are underway to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Recall that Lawal imposed a 24-hour curfew on Dutsinma LGA and a 12-hour curfew on the remaining 33 LGAs as part of measures to restore peace following violent outbreaks during nationwide protests.
