The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a new directive requiring polytechnic and monotechnic graduates to present evidence of completing the mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) before participating in the national service.
This measure aims to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Coordinator in Lagos State, disclosed this new policy.
She stated that Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates must provide proof of IT completion to be registered at any NYSC orientation camp.
“This directive is essential to ensure that all graduates meet the required qualifications before Mobilisation,” Baderinwa stated.
The policy will be enforced starting from the next orientation camp, and prospective corps members who fail to comply will be denied registration.
The NYSC Coordinator further highlighted that institutions must verify the completion of the one-year IT before admitting students into HND programmes.
This step is crucial in maintaining the educational standards and ensuring that graduates have fulfilled all necessary prerequisites.
The new directive has been welcomed by some as a positive step towards enhancing the quality of graduates entering the workforce.
It aims to prevent any lapses in the educational process and ensure that all graduates have undergone the necessary training to be eligible for the NYSC programme.
This development underscores the importance of the Industrial Training component in the polytechnic and monotechnic education system.
It serves as a practical bridge between academic learning and real-world experience, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required in their respective fields.
The initiative is also expected to encourage institutions to prioritise the Industrial Training programme, ensuring that students are adequately prepared for the demands of the workforce.
The NYSC remains committed to maintaining the quality of the national service program and ensuring that all participants are well-qualified and ready to contribute to national development.
