As the #EndBadGovernanceProtest entered its second day, a group of hoodlums attacked women protesters at a private venue near Enerhen Junction in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred on Friday, when the women were peacefully protesting against hardship and calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government to provide food and restore hope for Nigerians.
The attackers, armed with sticks, daggers, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons, disrupted the peaceful demonstration.
One of the protesters, Edafe Tosin, spoke to newsmen in Asaba, Delta State, via phone. She recounted, “The hoodlums disrupted our peaceful protest.
“We, the women, were chanting solidarity songs and calling on the government to provide food and restore hope when the attackers struck.
“We had to run away because we didn’t want to get injured. Delta State belongs to all of us, so why are these hoodlums targeting us? Why aren’t they protesting too?”
She further expressed frustration, hinting that the attackers were motivated by those who had enough to eat and therefore did not support the protest.
“But no problem, election will come again. We know those behind these people asking us not to protest, just because they have food to eat,” she added.
The police stationed at Enerhen Junction intervened and rescued the women from the violent mob.
However, at the time of reporting, no suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
