Hon. Kunle K Alidu, a commissioner at the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, has praised Lagosians for their exemplary conduct during the ongoing protests in the city.
The demonstrations, organised to address various socio-economic issues, have been marked by peaceful and orderly behaviour from participants.
In a statement released earlier today, Hon. Alidu expressed admiration for Lagos residents, highlighting their disciplined approach to expressing grievances.
“I am immensely proud of the way Lagosians have conducted themselves during these protests.
Their commitment to maintaining peace while making their voices heard is a testament to their maturity and understanding of democratic principles,” Alidu stated.
The protests, which began Thursday, have drawn thousands of citizens to the streets, demanding better governance, improved infrastructure, and economic reforms.
Despite the large turnout, there have been no reports of violence or vandalism, which are often concerns during large public gatherings.
The peaceful nature of the protests has facilitated constructive dialogue between the protesters and government officials.
Hon. Alidu emphasised the importance of responsible conduct in fostering a healthy democratic environment.
“Peaceful protests are a vital part of our democracy. They allow citizens to express their views and hold the government accountable without resorting to violence.
“The behaviour of Lagosians during these protests sets a positive example for the rest of the country,” he added.
The Lagos State government has acknowledged the concerns raised by the protesters and assured the public that steps are being taken to address these issues.
Officials have been engaging with protest leaders to better understand their demands and find viable solutions.
This engagement demonstrates a commitment to open communication and responsiveness to the needs of the citizens.
Security agencies have also played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the protesters and maintaining order.
They have been commended for their professional handling of the situation, which has allowed the demonstrations to proceed without incident.
Their presence and cooperation with the protesters have been vital in upholding peace and preventing potential conflicts.
Hon. Kunle Alidu’s commendation comes at a time when the importance of peaceful protest is being emphasized globally.
His recognition of the conduct of Lagosians is expected to encourage continued peaceful engagement between citizens and the government.
It also serves as a reminder that peaceful demonstrations are a cornerstone of democratic expression, allowing for the articulation of public discontent without resorting to violence.
As the protests continue, Hon. Alidu urged all participants to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the people and working towards a better Lagos for all.
