Craig Shakespeare, Former Leicester City Manager, dies at 60

Craig Shakespeare, former manager of Leicester City, passed away at the age of 60, his family confirmed on Thursday.

The League Managers’ Association released a statement noting that Shakespeare died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

Shakespeare’s career in football was marked by significant achievements, most notably as Claudio Ranieri’s assistant during Leicester City’s extraordinary Premier League title-winning campaign in the 2015-16 season.

His tactical acumen and strong rapport with players were instrumental in one of the greatest underdog stories in sports history.

In early 2017, Shakespeare was promoted to the role of manager at Leicester City.

However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was dismissed later that year following a challenging start to the season.

Despite the setback, Shakespeare remained a respected figure in the football community.

After departing Leicester, Shakespeare continued his career in football, taking on various assistant manager roles at several clubs, including Everton, Watford, Aston Villa, and Norwich.

He consistently brought his expertise and experience to these positions, earning respect across the league.

In April 2023, Shakespeare returned to Leicester City as an assistant head coach under Dean Smith.

Despite his efforts, the club was relegated from the Premier League, and his contract was not renewed.

Nevertheless, Shakespeare’s influence and contributions were felt both on and off the field.

Craig Shakespeare’s impact on football, particularly during Leicester City’s historic league triumph, has left a lasting legacy.

His dedication, knowledge, and passion for the sport have made him a beloved figure among fans and peers alike.

His passing is a significant loss to the football community.
