The Borno State Government has declared an immediate 24-hour curfew across the state following a tragic bomb explosion at Kawori Market in the Konduga area.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, involved the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED), suspected to be the work of a Boko Haram suicide bomber, resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals and causing severe injuries to many others.
This announcement was made by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, in a statement released on Thursday.
The statement, titled “Imposition of Curfew,” highlighted that the decision was taken after Governor Babagana Zulum consulted with senior security officials in the state.
“The imposition of this curfew is aimed at restoring law and order and ensuring public safety,” the statement read.
It further elaborated, “In view of the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security and law enforcement agencies toward the preservation of law and order in the state, and in light of the tragic incident at Kawori, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, in consultation with heads of security, finds it expedient to declare a 24-hour curfew in the state with immediate effect.”
ASP Daso urged residents to remain calm and adhere to the curfew, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining safety.
“I, therefore, wish to call upon the good people of Borno State to remain calm and law-abiding. Further developments will be communicated to you accordingly,” the statement concluded.
The curfew is part of broader efforts by the state government to address security concerns and prevent further incidents, as the situation continues to be monitored closely.
