Delta Police Command Records Major Breakthrough in Crime Prevention

The Delta State Police Command has announced significant achievements in its ongoing battle against crime in the state. 

In a press release issued Tuesday, the police detailed the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, four pump-action guns, one Beretta pistol, two English revolver pistols, six locally made guns, and eighty-seven rounds of 7.62mm ammunition over a span of three days.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edge Bright revealed that on July 28, 2024, operatives from the Dragon Patrol unit conducted a stop-and-search operation along Asaba-Kwale Road. 

They intercepted a Sienna vehicle with registration number BDG 385 EC. The driver fled upon sighting the police, abandoning the vehicle. 

A subsequent search uncovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and fifty-eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

On July 25, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, the CP’s Special Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, conducted an operation in Ughelli North LGA’s Oviri-Ogor forest to apprehend a suspected kidnapper. 

The team engaged in a gunfight with the suspects, resulting in one suspect sustaining fatal injuries. 

The police however recovered two pump-action guns and sixteen rounds of live cartridges.

On July 26, 2024, at approximately 01:30 hours, DPO Ekpan, CSP Aliyu Shaba, acting on intelligence, raided a location on Kano Road off DSC and arrested one Akeni College. 

A search of his residence led to the discovery of one Beretta pistol, two revolver pistols, six locally made guns, and cartridges.

Also, operatives from the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, while conducting a stop-and-search operation in Asaba, encountered a suspect carrying a bag who fled upon approach. 

A search of the abandoned bag revealed one AK-47 rifle and twenty-nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. 

A manhunt is currently underway for the suspect.

Later that day, at approximately 18:30 hours, officers intercepted a Lexus 350 SUV on Kwale Road, recovering two brand-new pump-action guns. 

Four suspects, Savage Roland (26), Clever Imonukore (29), Isaac Umukoro (49), and Louis Opone (40), were arrested.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers for their dedication and urged them to continue employing proactive policing measures.
