New MD, COO Appointed at AEDC Amidst Controversy

By Funmi Ojo

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced the appointment of Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye as its new Acting Managing Director, effective immediately. Okwuokenye, who previously served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, is now tasked with leading AEDC’s transformation into a customer-focused energy distribution firm.

In a statement, AEDC’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Adefisayo Akinsanya, highlighted Okwuokenye’s extensive experience and expertise in managing integrated generating projects and strategic support units.

“Engr. Okwuokenye brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position, which will be crucial in steering AEDC towards its goal of becoming a customer-centric organization,” Akinsanya stated.

The appointment of Okwuokenye comes amidst the suspension of AEDC by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for allegedly violating the terms of the market participation agreement and market rules.

TCN accused AEDC of failing to provide a sufficient bank guarantee, as required by the regulations governing the power market.

Despite the suspension, AEDC has reassured its customers of its commitment to providing reliable electricity supply.

The company is actively working on updating substations, extending distribution networks, and incorporating cutting-edge technologies to enhance service delivery.

In a related development, Olumide Jerome has been appointed as AEDC’s new Chief Operating Officer.

Jerome’s focus will be on promoting efficiency and operational excellence within the organisation, ensuring that AEDC meets its objectives and continues to improve its service to customers.

AEDC’s leadership changes are seen as a strategic move to navigate the current challenges and drive the company towards achieving its long-term goals. The new appointments underscore AEDC’s dedication to enhancing its operational capabilities and maintaining customer satisfaction despite the ongoing issues with TCN.
