The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of Francis Palowei, a final-year student of Political Science at Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma.

Palowei was allegedly killed by a group of boys who demanded a N500 levy from him at a popular relaxation spot known as Sand Dump in Amassoma.

According to sources, the boys had initially introduced a N150 levy for students visiting the spot.

However, on Monday evening, they demanded N500 from Palowei, leading to a heated argument and a subsequent attack by suspected cultists.

The incident has sparked a protest among NDU students, who are demanding the arrest of the suspected killers.

Meanwhile, community boys are preparing to resist any potential reprisals.

The Commissioner of Police, Aloyenu Francis Idu, has deployed additional security personnel to restore calm in the area.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing and a manhunt for the fleeing killers has been launched.

Niger Delta University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ndoni Igezi, described the incident as unfortunate and assured that the police are working diligently to prevent any escalation
