Abia PDP Tackles Otti over Road Rehabilitation Claims

By Olumide Olusegun |

The Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently disputed the State Governor, Alex Otti, recent claims of rehabilitating 90 roads across the state.

The controversy erupted following Otti’s public address where he touted these achievements, which the PDP labels as unfounded and misleading.

The Abia PDP, through its Vice Chairman and Acting State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Elder Abraham Amah, accused Governor Otti of employing what they described as “Nazi-style propaganda” to mislead the people of Abia State.

They called upon Otti to provide evidence supporting his claim, including a detailed list of the roads rehabilitated, the costs incurred, and adherence to the state’s procurement laws in awarding the contracts.

“We challenge Alex Otti to take a cue from leaders like Mr. Peter Obi and release the list for verification,” said Hon. Amah.

“The lack of transparency surrounding these claims is deeply troubling to the people of Abia State, who deserve honesty and accountability from their elected officials.”

The statement from the Abia PDP also highlighted past instances where Otti’s administration allegedly failed to provide transparency in financial matters, citing extravagant expenditures without corresponding infrastructure developments.

They pointedly criticised the allocation of funds to projects such as the governor’s office, ICT center, and vehicle purchases, which they argue lack visible impact on the state’s infrastructure.

Furthermore, the PDP recalled Governor Otti’s own confirmation during a 2019 debate where he acknowledged receiving and verifying a list of road projects from the previous administration, contrasting sharply with his current claims.

“We cannot accept these claims at face value when there is no concrete evidence to support them,” asserted Hon. Amah. “The credibility of Governor Otti’s administration hinges on transparency and truthfulness, and the people of Abia State demand nothing less.”

The Abia PDP also called upon prominent figures within the state and concerned citizens to pressure Governor Otti into disclosing the details of the purported road rehabilitation projects.

They warned of potential consequences if Otti fails to comply, emphasising the community’s growing skepticism towards official statements from the governor’s office.
