The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, has urged Nigerians to prioritise proper hygiene practices as the country faces a cholera outbreak that has claimed 30 lives.
To combat the spread of the disease, the Ministry has undertaken water quality analysis and dispatched teams to collect water samples from affected areas, including Lagos, Enugu, and Sokoto.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is actively involved, providing daily reports on the outbreak and response efforts.
Cholera, a waterborne disease, spreads rapidly through contaminated water and food.
It causes vomiting, diarrhea, and severe dehydration, which can be fatal if left untreated.
To prevent the spread of cholera, the Ministry advises Nigerians to Boil or treat drinking water before consumption, Wash hands regularly with soap and clean water, Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly with clean water and salt.
Individuals exhibiting symptoms of cholera should seek immediate medical attention.
The Ministry is collaborating with state governments, technical working groups, and rural water supply and sanitation agencies to address the outbreak and promote hygiene and water safety planning.
