Gunmen Abduct Former Principal, Demand N20m Ransom

Gunmen have abducted a retired school principal, Mr. Ezekiel Paul, in Ikot Abasi Akpan village, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and are demanding a N20 million ransom.

The incident occurred on Wednesday around 7:00 AM, while Mr. Paul was preparing to attend morning Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the assailants ambushed Mr. Paul in his compound near the Community Civic Centre. They waited for him to emerge from his house before striking.

According to eyewitnesses, “Mr. Ezekiel Paul was kidnapped on Wednesday around 7:00 AM when he came out of his house in the morning.

“He was preparing for morning Mass at St. Pius X Parish when the assailants, who had been waiting around the compound, pounced on him.”

The attackers blindfolded Mr. Paul and dragged him to their parked motorcycle by the road. As they grabbed him, the victim shouted for help, but the motorcycle sped off before anyone could intervene.

His wife, Mrs. Mary Ezekiel, heard the commotion and raised the alarm for help. Despite her efforts, the neighbors arrived too late, as the kidnappers had already whisked Mr. Paul away.

It was reported that some members of the gang have been arrested, including a notorious criminal known in the community as “Taller.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident, stating that the police are aware of the situation and are actively working to rescue the victim.

This abduction has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the ongoing issue of insecurity in the area.

Residents are calling for increased police presence and more effective measures to protect citizens from such crimes.

The abduction of a respected former principal has particularly distressed the local community, as they await news of his safe return.

Authorities urge anyone with information that could assist in the rescue operation to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement.

The community however remains hopeful that the swift action of the police will lead to the safe recovery of Mr. Ezekiel Paul and the arrest of all those involved in this heinous crime
