Monarch Appeals to NDDC for Investment in Mechanized Farming

By Paulinus Nta, A’IBOM

As food prices continue to rise, His Royal Majesty, Edidem E. C. Abia, Paramount Ruler of Eket Local Government in Akwa Ibom State, has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to invest in mechanized farming in the region. This initiative aims to address food scarcity and reduce the high cost of living.

The Paramount Ruler made this appeal during a courtesy visit by Mr. Abasiandikan Nkono, the Akwa Ibom State representative on the NDDC, to his palace in Eket. He emphasized the need for the NDDC to prioritize agricultural investment, particularly mechanized farming, to revitalize the economy and decrease the region’s reliance on crude oil.

“Many lands are lying fallow, and it’s crucial that we prioritize mechanized farming to boost economic growth in the region. This will encapsulate sustainable farming practices and create jobs for our youths,” said His Royal Majesty.

He also urged the NDDC to rehabilitate more public schools, stressing the importance of education in the region’s development.

Mr. Nkono explained that the visit aimed to strengthen ties and promote development in the region. He solicited the royal father’s continued support and partnership to sustain the momentum for growth and progress in Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta.

Nkono highlighted the NDDC’s areas of focus, including infrastructural development, human capital development, healthcare delivery, education, and environmental sustainability. He commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his peace and unification agenda and pledged that the NDDC remains committed to working with all levels of government and traditional institutions to create and sustain an enabling environment for peace, economic growth, and development.

The call for investment in mechanized farming is seen as a crucial step towards achieving food security and economic stability in the Niger Delta region. By prioritizing agriculture, the NDDC can help create jobs, promote sustainable farming practices, and ensure a steady food supply for the region.
