Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organisation, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its move to grant full autonomy to the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message marking the first anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration, Afenifere’s leader, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, expressed his approval of the President’s bold steps to reposition Nigeria.

Speaking through Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, Fasoranti said, “I am pleased to note that, in line with your promises, you are making efforts to implement policies that will enhance the situation of our dear country and better the lot of the people.”

The nonagenarian commended Tinubu’s government for initiating reforms with the potential to revamp the country’s economy and reduce mutual distrust among ethnic nationalities.

Fasoranti particularly praised the government’s effort to liberate local governments from the control of state governors, stating, “Local government is the closest to the people, and it is through it that the people at the grassroots can effectively feel the impact of the government.”

He described the latest actions taken by the Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, on behalf of the Federal Government as a step in the right direction.

Expressing optimism that the government’s measures will soon alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, Fasoranti urged President Tinubu to focus on infrastructure development, including power and transportation.

He also emphasised the need for restructuring to deepen public participation in governance, boost creativity, and secure the country’s future.

“Security is an important factor in any social equation. For it is in a situation where people are secured that they will be able to confidently engage in activities that will boost the economy and enhance interpersonal relationships,” Fasoranti said.
