Prof. Josephine Anene-Okeakwa, Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, has assured that the institution will continue to enhance healthcare delivery and other services affecting the well-being of students and staff.
She made this commitment during the 37th matriculation ceremony held at the School of Business Auditorium in Asaba, Delta State.
A total of 427 new students took their matriculation oath at the event.
Prof. Anene-Okeakwa congratulated the students for securing admission amidst stiff competition, advising them to embrace and overcome challenges as a path to discovering their strengths.
“The College is known for its excellent teaching, evidenced by our state-of-the-art ICT Center, the best Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) center in the region. The College will not tolerate any vices,” she noted.
She further stated, “We are committed to ensuring that academic activities adhere to the standards set by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)”.
She added that “Management has implemented measures to eliminate practices that compromise academic standards, and these measures are achieving their objectives.”
“Our Quality Assurance Directorate ensures that all College activities meet established standards. This Directorate supports other departments and regularly monitors teaching, reporting to management.”
Anene-Okeakwa reassured, “We will continue to strengthen healthcare delivery and other services for the well-being of our students and staff.
“The government is committed to the professionalisation of education, and we have been at the forefront in implementing effective teacher education policies. Our graduates are equipped and inducted by TRCN, becoming recognized teachers globally.”
Addressing the new students, she said, “Consider yourselves fortunate to be admitted here. Even with the best abilities, opportunity is crucial.
“Remember, ignorance is not a shame, but unwillingness to learn is. Given the competitive nature of admissions, pursue your program with diligence and dedication. Education may have bitter roots, but its fruit is sweet.”
She urged students to avoid deviant behaviours such as cultism, hooliganism, indecent dressing, and exam malpractice, warning that offenders will face penalties as outlined in the Student Handbook.
“As new members of our community, align yourselves with our peaceful atmosphere to maintain our reputation and graduate successfully, becoming reputable alumni and worthy Nigerians.”
