Diaso tragedy: Hospital’s elevator installation to commence in May, says Lagos govt

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that a new elevator for General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island will be delivered for installation this month, May 2024.

This is coming about nine months after the tragic death of Dr Vwaere Diaso, who lost her life in the defective elevator of the hospital on August 1, 2023.

The lady doctor, who had only two weeks to the end of her horsemanship programme at the hospital was inside the elevator when it crashed from the 10th floor to the ground.

Speaking exclusively with NATIONAL TELESCOPE on Tuesday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Professor Akin Abayomi said work has commenced at the hospital, adding that the entire building will be renovated.

According to him, the elevator is currently en route to the state and will be delivered and the installation will commence in May.

He said, “Julius Berger has moved to the site to renovate the entire building.

“The new lift has been built and is currently en route to Lagos. Estimated to land in Lagos later this month. Once it’s here the installation will start.”
