Anambra Police arrests seven for cultism, armed robbery 

The Anambra State Police have apprehended seven individuals suspected of being involved in cult activities and armed robbery.  

The command also mentioned seizing a double-barrel gun, an unregistered tricycle, and a quantity of illegal drugs. 

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the report through a statement, providing the identities of the suspects as Chukwuemka Ozoekwe (18), Chidozie Anagor (18), Chukwuemeka Oyeoka (18), Ebuka Okoye (17), Olisa Obi (19), Chidubem Nwakwu (20), and Nwankwo Kosisochukwu. 

Ikenga announced that authorities are searching for Makuo Nwosu, also known as “Baby,” and an unnamed accomplice. 

He explained that officers from the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) apprehended all five individuals, including the driver, of a tricycle during a routine patrol at the well-known Unizik Junction in Awka. 

Upon attempting to engage them in questioning, the occupants fled the scene, with only Chukwuemka Ozoekwe being apprehended by security personnel.  

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Vipers cult group, and they are one of the gangs terrorizing Awka metropolis in recent times. The suspects also confessed that they were on a mission to rob the road users of their phones and personal belongings before they were arrested.” 

The Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Fidelis Ogarabe, urged the police operatives to maintain their efforts in combating crime in the state, promising the people of Anambra that their trust in the police and other security agencies will be honored.  

He also confirmed that suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are complete.
