UNIOSUN Hospital threatens mass burial for unclaimed corpses, gives 14-day ultimatum

UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, Osun State, has announced a 14-day deadline for families to claim the bodies of their deceased loved ones stored in the hospital’s mortuary.

The hospital management in a statement issued by the management in Osogbo on Saturday cited congestion as the reason for the ultimatum.

Relatives of individuals who passed away between January 2019 and June 2023 are urged to collect the bodies within the specified period.

Failure to do so will result in the hospital conducting a mass burial to address the overcrowding in the mortuary.

It read, “The management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo wishes to inform the general public that the hospital’s mortuary is presently congested and crowded with unclaimed bodies.

“In view of this development, the management hereby calls on relatives who have corpses in the mortuary unit of the hospital between January 2019 and June 2023 to come and retrieve them within 14 days of this announcement.

“It should be noted that the management will resort to mass burial of all unclaimed bodies after 14 days of this announcement as an alternative to decongest the mortuary.”
