The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has apprehended two individuals linked to a cybercrime syndicate that specializes in impersonating government officials on Facebook.

Commandant Olusola Odumosu disclosed during a parade in Abuja that the suspects, Henry Ushie Odep and Emanuel Ushie Odep from Cross Rivers State, were caught operating a fake Facebook account in his name to deceive Nigerians and extort money from them.

Emmanuel, the younger brother, was the first to be captured in Abuja, leading to the arrest of his elder brother Henry in Asaba, Delta State. They confessed to their involvement in cyber fraud, with Henry admitting to initiating Emmanuel into the illegal activity due to financial pressure.

The duo confessed to using online platforms like Opay, moniepoint, and Palmpay to receive funds from unsuspecting victims. They also disclosed using accounts belonging to an unwitting individual named Victory Chinagorom.

Henry revealed that he was introduced to cybercrime by his friend Chibuike Okorie, who is now residing in Kuwait. The NSCDC assured ongoing investigations, with plans to prosecute the suspects in accordance with the law.
