The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna State Sector Command has announced the apprehension of a driver responsible for a tragic accident on the Kano-Zaria road, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuring 30 others.
The Sector Commander, Mr. Kabir Nadabo, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kaduna.
Nadabo revealed that the accident happened on Thursday, with reports indicating that the trailer was speeding, leading to a fatal crash resulting in the loss of life.
“A trailer driver conveying bags of rice from Kano to Warri in the Delta had a lone accident at Wambai along the Kano-Zaria Highway.”
“Men of FRSC and the police conducted the rescue and were on the ground for an on-the-spot assessment.” Nadabo disclosed that the trailer was transporting 57 individuals, resulting in six fatalities and 30 others being injured.
“Apparently, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to high speed, and the injured were conveyed to Makarfi General Hospital for further treatment.”
He explained that on February 24, the FRSC launched its Joint Special Task Force on Overloading of Goods, Humans, and Animals in collaboration with agencies such as the Police, NSCDC, FRSC, and KASTLEA.
He emphasized that the FRSC, being the primary agency for traffic management and road administration, will persist in collaborating with relevant stakeholders to raise awareness among drivers about the risks associated with overloading and driving at night.
