Army comb 122 ISWAP fighters in East

The Defence Headquarters has reported that 122 fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP/JAS) and their families surrendered to troops in the eastern part of Nigeria within the past week.

Additionally, troops eliminated 192 terrorists, apprehended 341 criminals, and rescued 62 individuals who were kidnapped in various parts of the country.

Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, made this announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, April 18.

During the same period, troops recovered significant amounts of stolen crude oil and illegally refined diesel, kerosene, and petrol totaling 349,970 litres, 112,135 litres, 7,560 litres, and 13,000 litres respectively, in the Niger Delta region.

Furthermore, 211 assorted weapons, including 128 AK47 rifles and 26 dane guns, were seized, along with 6,288 assorted ammunition rounds.

Maj.-Gen. Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to neutralizing terrorists and disrupting their supply routes, stating,

“The military is resolutely working to eliminate terrorists, dismantle their networks, and prevent them from carrying out acts of terror or harming citizens.”

He also highlighted the meticulous intelligence efforts undertaken to ensure precise targeting during airstrikes, which have resulted in the elimination of several terrorist leaders and their associates.

He cautioned against the attempts of terrorist groups and their sympathizers to misrepresent casualties caused by military operations, urging the media to be vigilant and not fall for such tactics.

He concluded by reaffirming the military’s dedication to thwarting the strategic objectives of these nefarious elements through continued operations across the country.
