The Kwara State Police command has confirmed the arrest of four undergraduate students of the Kwara State University, Malete, for allegedly beating a fellow student to death.
It was gathered that the incident happened penultimate week in one of the private hostels outside the school.
Speaking with our correspondent on Friday, the state’s Police Public Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the deceased was beaten for allegedly filming them.
She stated that a fight broke out between the students when the suspects, which included two females, approached the person who filmed them. Adding that one of the students was killed in the process.
Although the police spokesperson didn’t reveal the names of the students involved, she said the command has commenced an investigation on the matter.
She said, “What happened is that the incident has to do with blackmail. Two ladies were contracted to make a donor and deliver something to somebody and when they went to deliver the item, they said low and behold as they were leaving the place, somebody told them that someone had recorded them.
“They then went to meet the person that committed the act and they started a free-for-all all fight and in the process, a student was beaten to death.
“Investigation is still ongoing. We have four suspects concerning the crime until the conclusion of the investigation, they will be charged to court.”
