Grief clouded the atmosphere on Monday, as 12 loss their lives to a ghastly road vehicle crash with registration number, KTG 454 ZZ, along the Zaria-Kano Expressways, leaving 28 others with varying degrees of injuries.
The incident occurred at Tashar Yari Village at about 7.36 am on Monday, which the FRSC revealed the cause as overtaking, speeding and overloading.
In a statement by the FRSC media office in Kaduna on the occurrence, and confirming the incident at the scene was the Chairman of Makarfi Local Government Area and the Unit Commander, Tashar Yari.
It reads, “Furthermore, an investigation of the incident revealed that 40 people were involved in the crash, 28 were injured, while 12 others lost their lives. The injured have since been conveyed to Mararfi General Hospital for further treatment,’’ the statement said.
“The owner of the vehicle, who is based in Azare, Bauchi State, has been communicated and directed to report to RS1.1 Kaduna Sector Command, while the driver of the trailer is reportedly among the deceased.
“What we witnessed today is avoidable, hence our resolve to continue to reach out to stakeholders, particularly transport unions to preach and sensitise their drivers to the dangers of speeding, overloading, dangerous driving and use of phone while driving, among others.”
Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, the Kaduna FRSC Sector Commander, Kabir Nadabo, appealed to motorists on the culture of safety on road. He said, “I want to appeal to motorists to imbibe the culture and conduct of safe driving, particularly on highways. May I use this medium to appreciate the Kaduna State Government for the continuous support to the FRSC activities in the state, and to the media for aligning with the corps’ values in spreading the word of safety.”
