IPOB/ESN attack Okigwe prison, kill police officer, free seven inmates

A Police officer have been killed by a gang of gunmen during an attack on Okigwe Correctional Farm Settlement.

The gunmen who stormed the prison on Monday also freed seven inmates and abducted the correctional service officer in charge of the prison.

The Police accused the IPOB/ESN group of masterminding the attack on the facility.

In a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, the Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, visited the scene and ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Special Tactical Squad to hunt down the suspected IPOB/ESN operatives.

He stated that the IPOB/ESN are allegedly being “responsible for the attacks on Correctional Service Farm Settlements, Umualomoke and the residence of Dist. Senator Patrick Ndubeze, both in Okigwe, in the early hours of 12/02/2024, which resulted in the release of seven (7) inmates, and abduction of the officer in charge of the farm settlement, and the death of a Police Inspector respectively.”

The commissioner vowed that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the abducted correctional service officer is recused unhurt.
