NUNS slam Police over Asaba student killing, bans political activities in Campuses …..Demands immediate persecution

The killing of a 200-level student of Industrial Technology Nweke Henry, by a yet-to-be identified police officer during APC Senatorial Primary Election held inside Federal College of Education Technical Asaba yesterday, has been described as pathetic and a display of unprofessionalism by the Nigeria Police Force.

The National Union of Nigeria Students (NUNS) in a statement signed by the Union’s President Amb Salahudeen Lukman and made available to this medium also condemned political party activity in academic premises.

“It is very pathetic and highly unprofessional of Nigeria police to involve in extra judicial killings at this 21st century.

“The ugly incident of shot to death one and the other in critical condition at Federal Medical Center Asaba by trigger happy officer of Nigeria Police Force at APC Senatorial Primary Election inside Federal College Of Education Technical Asaba is not only unpleasant but highly condemnable and unprofessional of our policing culture.

Meanwhile the Union has insist on the Inspector General of Police to dismiss and persecute the officer who was involved in the shooting as he has since the incident not been identified by the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Inspector General of Police should as a matter of urgency fish out the unprofessional officer who executed innocent and armless Nigerian students for immediate dismissal, prosecution and jail.

“We demand an open apology to the family of the deceased, the Student Union Government and General Student of FECOTECH Asaba on this assassination act from Nigerian Police Force and All Progressive Congress.

The statement however emphasized the need for all security agencies to implore the use of less destructive ammunition such as rubber bullet, tear gas, water canno and others during any police dealing with armless of Nigerian citizen as modality to avert casualty at every occasion of Police engagement with crowd most especially Nigeria students.

The union also placed a ban on political activities in all campuses across the country as they call on the leadership of the political party to ensure adequate compensation to the family of the decease while the medical bill of the gunshot victim is paid.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria under the ruling party APC whose party activities on our campus has cost us a soul should take up the medical bill of the gun shot survival, befitting burial arrangement for Late Henry and compensation to his family.
