The University of Ibadan’s management has firmly rejected an online advertisement that claimed the institution’s assets and landed property were up for sale. The administration, along with the governing council, has distanced itself from this false claim.
Addressing the issue with a statement titled ‘Sale of the University of Ibadan: Caveat Emptor,’ the management emphasizes that they have not authorized or released any such advertisement.
The statement reads as follows:
“The University of Ibadan’s management expresses deep concern over an online advertisement that falsely announces the sale of the university’s property, assets, and land.
Both the University’s Management and its Governing Council want to clarify that they are in no way responsible for or associated with this advertisement.
We strongly advise members of the public, particularly those within the international community, to exercise caution and not fall victim to any fraudulent activities.
It is important to categorically state that the University of Ibadan, along with its valuable assets and extensive land holdings, is absolutely not available for purchase.
Furthermore, the Department of State Services has been promptly informed and urged to take appropriate action against the individuals purportedly involved in this misleading scheme.”
