Oyo gov appoints Olaniyan as VC of Emmanuel Alayande Varsity

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has designated Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan as the new Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.

The announcement was made by Governor Makinde during a meeting on Wednesday where he received reports from the Chairpersons of the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Planning and Implementation Committees. The meeting took place at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Agodi, Ibadan.

Governor Makinde assured that the recommendations from both committees would be put into action without delay. He expressed his appreciation to the committee chairpersons, Professor Juwon Arotiba and Professor Ayodeji Omole, along with their teams, for surpassing expectations in executing their tasks.

Regarding the report of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Committee, the governor disclosed the state government’s plan to establish a Directorate for Tertiary Healthcare within the Ministry of Health. This entity would oversee the operations of tertiary health institutions.

Governor Makinde praised the accomplishments of Professor Juwon Arotiba and the committee, particularly for their success in securing accreditation for the MBBS program and expanding admission capacity from 75 to 120 students. He highlighted that the thoroughness of their report obviated the need for further evaluation.

Expressing gratitude for the significant progress achieved, the governor emphasized that this is only the beginning, hinting at future projects and collaborations. He assured the committee members of the state’s continued support to drive its growth.

Regarding the appointment of Professor Olaniyan as the Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Governor Makinde underscored his administration’s commitment to retaining all institution staff. He assured the workers that his administration does not engage in indiscriminate dismissals and mentioned instances of reinstating workers who had been let go by the previous administration.

Governor Makinde acknowledged the challenges faced by the educational institutions in Oyo State and the measures taken to address them. He outlined the positive impact of bringing in consultants to oversee operations and financial management. He expressed the intention to gradually phase out the consultants and empower the institutions’ Governing Councils.

In their responses, Professor Arotiba and Professor Omole expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them and their committees by the governor. They expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to prompt implementation of their reports and pledged continued support for its initiatives.
