The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of the body of Sikiru Olatunji, a 76-year-old man who had been missing for several days.
His remains were found on Wednesday, about 1.5 kilometers from Wasinmi Abule Maria, close to Balogun Village in the Yewa North Local Government Area.
Olatunji was reported missing on February 8, and his body was located during a joint search operation that involved officers from the Imasayi Division and dedicated community volunteers, including operatives from Amotekun and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
The grim discovery was made with Olatunji lying face-up, a cutlass casually placed beside him.
Disturbingly, there were no obvious signs of violence on his body, leading to questions about what exactly led to his untimely demise.
The police have assured the public that investigations are in full swing and have called on residents for their cooperation.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, urged anyone with pertinent information regarding the circumstances surrounding Olatunji’s death to step forward.
She stated, “We are soliciting useful information from the public to aid our inquiry.”
In the aftermath of this distressing discovery, Olatunji’s family has been granted custody of his remains for burial, while the police continue to seek answers to this puzzling case.
