Fees Reduction: Unilorin Student Union lauds Management, Students Celebrates

The Students Union (SU) of the University of Ilorin has lauded the Management of the institution for the reduction of Fees for 2017/2018 Academic Session.

This was according to a statement titled ‘A Won Battle’ issued yesterday on the WhatsApp page of the Union by the SUG Public Relation Officer Oyewumi Mufutau. Campus Focus reports

“As against the initial hiked price of school fee..the student Union executives out of their doggedness worked towards reduction of the fee and we are happy to inform our students that the changes has manifested… Log on to your portal for confirmation.”

While addressing the fears of some students on a possible increase in the charges of other utilities. The statement emphasised that the popular SU charges is included in the tuition payable for the session.
“The SU charges doesn’t reflect on the school fees portal (it’s in inclusion on the tuition fee)”
Meanwhile, as some students of the institution on the platform continue to celebrate the reduction in the fees, others remain skeptical, allaying fears that other charges may have been increased.

A law student who is simply identified as Emmanuel said “In my opinion, I think the school has done well to reduce the fee even if it’s 1000 naira difference. “So I think this is a laudable step and it’s praise worthy.
Meanwhile in my course it’s a drastic reduction, Almost 5k.”

Also, a Student of Education Sophia Udoji said “For me, it’s fair enough so long additional charges don’t appear along the line. If the charges are fixed on the former, it’s fine for me.”

Mike Ekene, a 300 level student of Microbiology said “There is a reduction in my own. Was 24k before, but it’s now 18900. 5k more or less! Hmmm dem do well o.”

Ibeli Peter, a 400 level student of Educational Technology. “I must say my school fee reduced and believe me am really happy because looking at the situation and economy of the country as a whole, at least parents wouldn’t panic on paying the fee especially the new intake, their parents wont have to complain that there is no money.”
Also Ebitanmi Kehind said “About N5,500 difference is something nice. It appears to be a very good step in the right direction. Kudos to the SU and school management.

“However, I do hope it will not become ironic when we’re later mandated to pay more than the amount slashed for WiFi bandwidth, *”sweat shirt”*, SU souvenirs et al.”

Meanwhile a Student simply identified as ‘Activist’ said “The fee wasn’t reduced, they just removed/separated the bandwidth money (#5000)…which we’re still gonna pay,” he said

When contacted on the reduction of the fees, the Institution Director of Cooperate Affairs Dr. Kunle Akogun said he is not aware of the development.
