The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has explained the rationale behind the increasing number of radio stations in the state.
The governor stated that before his assumption of office, the stations were 22 but increased to 55 as a result of the viable economy in the state.
He stated this through his commissioner for information and orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade at the commissioning of a new radio station, Entrepreneur Radio, SEAP FM 89.1, Okeho, Kajola local government area of Oyo State.
He urged investors to take advantage of the state’s landmass, saying it has been identified as a goldmine for investors, making the state competitive with surrounding states.
Prince Oyelade who represented the state governor at the event, said that although Lagos State has a seaport, it only has 3,577 square kilometers of land, whereas Oyo State’s advantage lies in its dry port and the landmass of 28,454 square kilometers arable land, about eight times larger than the size of Lagos.
The commissioner said the increase from 22 radio stations to 55 radio stations within four years of Seyi Makinde administration is proof that the state economy is booming and expanding.
Prince Oyelade said that similar expansions are being experienced in real estate and hospitality businesses.
He said that if the next administration in Oyo State after 2027 keeps to the GSM blueprint, Oyo State will compete with Lagos in 12 years going forward.
The commissioner said that similarly, infrastructure is being expanded, such that strategic roads across the state are being linked together economically.
He said that over 200km of road have been commissioned so far by Gov. Seyi Makinde, which is a record in the history of old and new Oyo states.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the radio station, Dr. Oladokun Olatunde, said the radio station will not only keep the people of his Okeho hometown and environs informed; it will also give them the opportunity to stand tall among their fellow citizens across Oyo State.
He urged accomplished sons and daughters of the land to bring investments to their homeland, the Onjo of Okeho, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha (Adeitan II) and the House of Reps members for Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola federal constituency, Hon. Oyesina Oyedeji, in their addresses, described the founder of the radio station, Dr. Olatunde, as a serial investor committed to the development of Okeho land, Oyo state and Nigeria at large.
The event was attended by traditional rulers in Oke-Ogun zone, seasoned broadcaster, Yemi Sonde, the Chairperson of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS, Mrs Dọtun Olaitan among other dignitaries.
