The Federal Government, through the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria, on Saturday, conducted its May/June diet of Professional Qualifying Examinations for 30,000 teachers nationwide.

The examination held in Computer-Based Test centres across the 36 states, with Kaduna State having the highest with 3,258 candidates.

Others included Plateau State with 2,768 teachers, the Federal Capital Territory had 1,564 teachers, Lagos State had 900 while Sokoto had the lowest candidates with 185 teachers.

Monitoring the examination in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, said the Federal Government had instructed the TRCN and the National Teachers’ Institute to compile a data base of qualified teachers for placements into schools across the country.

Echono said, “We are serious about implementing the policy. We are starting from individuals who are qualified and who do not have jobs so that they can replace those people in few schools who are not qualified but are teaching.”
