2019: KWAPFO cautions party supporters on hate speech

The Kwara State University Alumni Progressive Forum has cautioned Political Party supporters of use words that can lead to violent in the state for the forthcoming general election.

The group made this statement in its communique issued and signed by coordinator,Babamale Abdullahi, Secretary, Ishiaku Jafar and the Public Relations Officer,Ahmed Ajikobi after their second ordinary general meeting held at restaurants and bar of Nigeria Union of Journalist press centre located at Offa road,Ilorin.

The forum further stated that, with deep concern the heightened apprehension and tension that have become synonymous with election seasons in Nigeria. They therefore resolved and informed its members and the general public to take note of words that cause disaster in the nation.

” We should be cautious while campaigning for our preferred candidates, and refrain from obscenity, name calling, abuse, hate-speech, profanity, violence either physically or on social media platforms.”

The group also added that, election is a civic responsibility designed for eligible members of the society to make their choices in an orderly manner and urged all member of the public to come out to vote on election day.

KWAPFO also appreciated the great performance of the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies for keeping lives and property safe all times urging them to keep being professional during the electioneering seasons and thereafter.

” The forum congratulates all the governorship candidates for emerging as the flag-bearers of their respective political parties such as Hon. Razak Atunwa (PDP), Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (APC) and Issa Aremu (LP) among others.

” The group enjoins the candidates to prioritize our beloved Alma Mater, KWASU, in their plans and manifestos as we wish them good luck in the forthcoming contest.”

The group also appreciated the
Senate president, Dr.Bukola Saraki for the establishment of the the world class university(KWASU) during his time as the executive governor of the State.

They further that, Kwara State University,Malete with the motto “University for community development” was established with the intention of accelerating rural development in the State.

They described Saraki as amiable,indefatigable and visionary leader adding that since the inception of the University, it has produced graduates in different disciplines in great numbers, excelling at their various chosen fields and careers.
” The establishment of the university contributes greatly in reducing the stress hitherto experienced by indigenes of Kwara and neighbouring states seeking admission in ivory towers.

” The University has also provided job opportunities and rapid development to its host communities.”

The forum also appreciated the State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his numerous contributions in ensuring Kwara State University runs smoothly and his achievements for the construction of the College of Engineering Building, a giant edifice that is synonymous to the character of the constructor.

They also appreciated the vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah who is a competent, capable administrator and his team in ensuring, through his toil and sweat, that KWASU becomes a force to reckon with in the nation’s educational hub.
