Twenty medical students who were abducted last week have been successfully rescued and relocated to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, for medical examination.
According to information obtained exclusively by The Nation from a security personnel involved in the operation, one kidnapper was shot dead, while two others were captured during the rescue mission.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the rescue of the 20 medical students on Friday night.
The students were found in Ajide Forest, located within Ukwonyo Council Ward in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State. The forest is situated between Ado and Okpokwu Local Government Areas in the Benue South Senatorial District.
The security source revealed, “The security team, with the support of surveillance helicopters stationed in Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area, launched an operation against the kidnappers’ den. We neutralized one of the kidnappers and captured two others. All 20 rescued medical students have since been moved to Abuja for thorough medical checks.”
