167 Yobe-Sponsored Students Graduate from Indian Universities

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has highlighted the positive impact that 167 foreign-trained graduates, sponsored by his administration, will have on the state’s health and other critical sectors.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, in Damaturu on Saturday.

In 2020, the state government sponsored 233 students, known as the “Yobe Scholars,” to pursue specialized courses in India. At the graduation ceremony held in five Indian universities, Governor Buni, represented by the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Buba Mashio, emphasized the importance of these graduates in addressing the state’s critical needs.

The graduates specialized in fields like medical laboratory science, pharmacy, radiology, physiotherapy, optometry, computer science, and engineering. Notably, 58 students graduated from GD Goenka University, while others completed programs at Integral University, Kalinga University, and other institutions.

The governor noted a significant increase in the number of trained optometrists and pharmacists, with over 400% growth compared to previous years.

The statement also quoted the Nigerian High Commission in India commending Yobe’s scholarship initiative. Governor Buni congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to serve with dedication wherever they find themselves.
