No fewer than 1,657 corps members of 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 deployed to Oyo State have been sworn-in to commence the one year mandatory national service.

NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe, while reading the address of the NYSC Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim during the swearing-in ceremony at Orientation Camp, Iseyin on Tuesday, March 2, 2022, commended the corps members for answering the clarion call to serve their fatherland.

“It is with immense delight that I welcome you on board as we formally induct you into the National Youth Service Corps. I congratulate you on your graduation form your respective institutions of learning, and your subsequent enlightenment for the National Service. I also commend your patriotic zeal as demonstrated through acceptance of your deployment and prompt report to this Orientation Camp.”

She said the orientation course through its cardinal programmes, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical trainings is designed to equip Corps towards the realization of their potentials and attainment of fear during and after the period of service.

She said, “As you are aware, one of the major objectives of NYSC is the promotion of national unity and integration. This informed your deployment away from your State of origin and your assemblage here from diverse ethnic, religion and socio-economic backgrounds.

“This policy will not only offer you the opportunity for broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.” She added.

Mrs. Ogbuogebe, who cautioned the corps members against cultism, drug abuse and other social vices, also enjoined them against the use of social media for spreading of fake news.

“I implore you to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far, especially by remaining compliant with the camp recipes and regulations. You must continue to distance yourselves from Cultism, drug abuse and other social vices. I also urge you to avoid using the social media for spreading fake news, fueling of hatred and other negative purposes, and instead deploy smart for the promotion of national unity and development. You are strongly advised to be security conscious at all times, and to report any suspicious characters or activities around you to the appropriate authorities.”

“At this junction I would like to remind you that white-collar jobs are not readily available. Therefore, I encourage you to avail yourselves of opportunities for self-employment offered through our Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. You are expected to choose from any of the skill areas and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from Orientation Camp.” She added.
